Renowned for his sleekly glamorous interiors, his love of art and antiques, and his deep affinity for the city of Jozi, Muirhead is clearly carving a very elegant niche for himself in the world of interior design. Each year the
Decorex décor committee, invites a decorator to create a décor installation at the entrance to Hall 5. Muirhead says he is humbled to have been given the honour this year.
Decorex Joburg takes place at Gallagher Convention Centre from 8 to 12 August. It is Africa’s largest décor, design and lifestyle exhibition and with more than 700 exhibitors in 5 halls showcases the latest in paints and product, fabrics and finishes, bathrooms and kitchens – and everything else in between.
Muirhead’s stand, which he says will inspire a feeling of pared down luxury, is certain to include some of his signature touches such as antiques and art. A master at creating luxurious, richly layered spaces, Muirhead says that he’s inspired by “almost anything” – the crazy energy and wonderful diversity of Johannesburg, French architecture, modernism, the synergy between old and new.
“I’ll never create something that’s clinical or minimalist though, and I always look at comfort before aesthetics,” he adds.
Lafarge Cement is also making a statement at the Hall 5 entrance, with the launch of two dramatic new innovations in cement. Look out for Artevia, Lafarge’s highly decorative polished concrete that has a super glossy granite-like finish. From outside to indoor applications, shopping malls to offices, Artevia is set to create an affordable flooring revolution.
Also on show at
Decorex Joburg is the acclaimed Hydromedia stormwater management system. A porous concrete suitable for driveways and any other build environment, it prevents flooding and is also going to change the face of construction.
In addition to these ready-mix products, the Lafarge stand will be showcasing the latest cement technology as well as their finishing and decorating business, gypsum. Plus, a lucky winner on the Lafarge stand could drive away on a trendy Big Boy scooter worth R15 000.
