The Muses become the latest ambassadors for PinkDrive

Published: 3 July 2012

South Africa’s all girl power-band, The Muses, have become the latest official ambassadors of PinkDrive – using their star-power to raise awareness of PinkDrive’s commendable efforts.

The Muses are a breath of fresh air in our country’s musical landscape – the girls have the unique ability to fuse classical instruments with foot-stomping contemporary tunes. To behold The Muses in action is to experience a touch from the angels.

And in that vein, The Muses quickly realised that they had to get involved when they heard about the important work that PinkDrive does on a day-to-day basis.

PinkDrive aims to provide affordable, convenient mammography services to women in the private and corporate sectors; and to provide free scanning and education to disadvantaged communities via local clinics, community health centres and specified hospitals. PinkDrive currently has two mobile breast units working, serving some 1.6 million women.

“Breast cancer is a serious problem affecting women of all backgrounds, as women we felt the need to partner with PinkDrive as official ambassadors – so that we can use our public profile to raise awareness and maybe even encourage people to become involved directly by volunteering,” said Olivia Kotze, one of the founding members of The Muses.

Sharon Smith of PinkDrive added: “What an amazing group of powerful women, which I believe all women who have been touched by this disease are! May the power of their music not only be an inspiration, but a reminder that there is life after breast cancer”.

The Muses celebrated their ambassadorship by embarking on their first official day of community outreach for PinkDrive, when they visited the community in Senoane at the Pick 'n Pay on 2 July.
