“I had worked with James Theunissen, Coastlands Group F&B manager, extensively at IVTM branch at uShaka Marine World. When James moved on to Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom, he was looked after by the INHOUSE team based there, so was no stranger to the products and services that IVTM offer,” said Ross Hatcher, IVTM operations manager for KwaZulu Natal.
“However, when James made another move to Coastlands Umhlanga (part of the Saantha Naidu Group), I just happened to phone him at the exact time that he was dealing with technical issues for the umpteenth time during a function. He said that he thought it was about time he handed these ‘headaches’ over to the professionals in order to achieve the technical standards expected by clients, and to free him and his staff up to concentrate on what they do best. This, of course, is the principal offering of IVTM.”
Situated on the highest point of Umhlanga Ridge north of Durban, Coastlands Hotel is a sought after venue, offering panoramic views of the ocean, inland and city. The hotel has three primary conference venues, African Fire, African Heritage, and African Sky. These venues cater for up to 350 pax banqueting style, 400 pax cocktail style, or 300 pax classroom style for conferencing.
“Coastlands Umhlanga is ideal for clients looking for plenary, breakaway, and lunch venues all within a central location on the second floor of the hotel. Add in the ‘wow’ factor of the African Sky venue on the eleventh floor for a gala dinner, or opening cocktail party, combined with what the INHOUSE team can do with technical, and you have a very attractive venue indeed,” said Theunissen.
In conjunction with IVTM, Coastlands Umhlanga has played host to numerous high profile conferences and events in its 18 months of existence, including the gala dinner for COP17, Road Accident Fund Inter-fund Games, the African Peer Review Mechanism Conference, as well as various functions for the Office of the Premier. “But it’s not just the ‘big stuff’ that we appreciate INHOUSE assisting us with, but also the smaller functions for our regular clients. This ensures we retain our repeat business – an important factor in the competitive hospitality industry,” said Theunissen.
With the recent purchase of audio, lighting and AV equipment allocated exclusively to Coastlands, and the appointment of a full time venue technical manager, Gavin Clack, the venue is set to continue growing, ensuring quality technical service at affordable pricing in a picturesque, versatile surrounding.
