Ford bands together for its 'Go Further' winter campaign

Published: 18 June 2012

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) employees banded together to collect warm clothes and blankets ahead of the winter season. The winter drive collection dubbed “Go Further” was in aid of the LeAmogetswe orphanage in Atteridgeville Pretoria as well as the Ford Care Centre, which provides much needed assistance to the Mamelodi community.

The drive began in February this year and proved so successful that the collection was extended until May.

The LeAmogetswe Care Centre for orphaned children houses 75 children from the Atteridgeville community. For Ford Corporate Communications Manager Alisea Chetty, it proved a rewarding experience. “When we arrived at the Centre some of the babies were crying. As soon as we picked them up they settled down, it was clear to us that all they needed was a little love and affection.”

The Ford Team got to work unloading the goods and made sure that each child received at least two sets of winter clothes. With the hard work out the way the team enjoyed the opportunity to spend time outside with children as they played on the slides.

“It reminded us all how privileged we are and how we should never take what we have for granted,” added Chetty.

Due to the generosity of the FMCSA employees there were enough clothes and blankets for a second donation. These were delivered to the Ford Care Centre based on site at the Silverton Assembly Plant. Jeff Nemeth, FMCSA President and CEO said “this is part of how we ‘Go Further’ to assist and support our communities”.

The Ford Care Centre services the Mamelodi area with workers going out in the community to help people in need. Thousands of children receive care and food on a weekly basis through this initiative.
