The Vodacom Bulls will be wearing pink for the clash against the DHL Stormers on 2 June and are encouraging everyone to get involved and raise funds for the Cancer Association of Southern Africa (CANSA).
“Our technology offers the perfect platform for SMS fund raising and we hope to raise as much as we possibly can for the ‘Get Your Pink On’ campaign,” says Portia Maurice, head of innovations and partnering at Vodacom.
Customers have already started to donate and the lines will be open until the end of the match on the 2 June.
“Often customers would like to contribute but do not know how. Sending an SMS off is simple. All the charges are waived which means that all the funds raised go to CANSA,” says Maurice.
The SMS lines have been successful in raising funds for past causes locally and internationally. Last year Vodacom and its customers raised over R500 000 for the South African Red Cross which went towards disaster relief in Somalia. SMS fund raising also helped pro-golfers and Vodacom to raise R3 250 000 for five organisations which care for abandoned, orphaned, malnourished and abused children in South Africa.
The ‘Get Your Pink On’ campaign was initiated by the Vodacom Bulls who are encouraging ticket holders to dress in pink and raise funds through six ‘Sprayathon’ stations inside the stadium. Vodacom will also be giving R20 000 for every try scored by the Bulls to CANSA.
