On Thursday, 29 March Vodacom held an event to announce the second phase of its ‘change the world’ programme. Vodacom started off the proceedings of the event by giving each person in attendance a drum and having them drum along with the very entertaining Drum Café. It was a great way to start the event as it got the crowd all excited and enthusiastic for what was yet to come.

On Wednesday, 7 December, the Newsclip iKage Christmas party was held at the Boiteko Community Centre Girl Guides Hall, which was festooned with balloons to get attendees in a celebratory mood. iKage uses soccer to develop children’s skills and improve life in the Cosmo City community.

The summit, which was a platform for the youth to play an active role for a greener more sustainable tomorrow, had over 40 Generation Earth youth councils from across the country in attendance. The initiative is a multi-partner collaboration with Vodacom, the Department of Basic Education, Microsoft, Cisco and Mindset, and is a nationwide teacher development programme aimed at improving the quality of learning through ICT solutions. The Avon Aspire Awards ceremony was held at The Venue in Melrose Arch on Thursday, 18 August. Attendees were met by a team of men literally playing with fire on the red carpet, as well as a photo booth where they could dress up their ‘touch of red’ outfits with props before the ceremony began.
The difference between print media and new media is that once something goes to print, it’s there for posterity, for all to see, whereas new media gives publishers the ability to alter or remove content once it’s gone live. However, should this be the case or does it bring in to question ethics and best practice on both the media and PR practitioners’ parts?
Wodac: every pet lover’s dream
As an animal lover, especially when it comes to the furry variety, I jumped at the chance to attend the media preview of the 2011 World of Dogs and Cats and Pet Expo (Wodac) held at the Goldfields Kennel Club on Tuesday, 12 July. After seeing what the organisers have to offer, I’ll definitely be making a stop at the expo when it takes place at Gallagher Convention Centre from 22 to 24 July.
<i>One Young World</i> summit proves “youth is <i>not</i> wasted on the young”
The Johannesburg Tourism Company (JTC) hosted the One Young World bid event on Thursday, 30 June at the Saxon Hotel. The inaugural One Young World summit was held in London last year and achieved great success, and the aim is for Johannesburg to host the 2012 event.
