Dulux joins with 702 and SABC for Nelson Mandela Day

Published: 20 July 2012

This year, Nelson Mandela Day became a colourful affair thanks to a number of initiatives undertaken by Dulux. By joining forces with two local broadcasters, Dulux was able to not only bring colour but also restore four underprivileged schools, as well as the Sebokeng Hospital in an effort to uplift and brighten the lives of pupils and patients in need.

“The Dulux Let’s Colour Project is all about harnessing the healing power of colour by transforming grey and gloomy spaces with colourful paint to uplift and inspire the surrounding areas and the people who live there. The 702 Nelson Mandela Day Schools Project, as well as the SABC Sebokeng Hospital initiative tie in directly with this objective, which is why we at Dulux considered it an honour to be given the opportunity to support these worthy assignments,” says Dulux brand manager for Central Africa, Bennum van Jaarsveld.

Indeed, Nelson Mandela Day saw Dulux painters dispatched to Batsogile Primary School, Tshebedisano Primary School, Jopie Fourie Laerskool and Day Care Centre, Mokgome Secondary School, as well as the Sebokeng Hospital to help transform the facilities with colour. “Not only will the much need facelifts look better but carefully selected colour pallets will also help inspire certain emotions. Indeed, the stimulating effects of colour in the education of children have long been hailed as an effective means to improve productivity, focus and concentration.”

Dulux, through The Let’s Colour project and in conjunction with 702 as well as volunteers from the local community, used its 67 minutes and more to infuse the schools with colour, thereby lifting the spirits of the children who attend the educational facilities. Creating an environment that is conducive to healing was key to the transformation of the Sebokeng Hospital and it is precisely this that was achieved in collaboration with the SABC.

“Dulux is passionate about uplifting and adding colour to people’s lives through our Let’s Colour Project and there is no better time to spread a little colour than on Nelson Mandela Day. By adding colour and restoring these locations we hope to instil a sense of pride. We hope it will influence the pupils in a positive way and also cause members of the community to have pride in their surroundings,” concludes Van Jaarsveld.
