HELLA sheds light on anti-rhino poaching

Published: 8 June 2012

HELLA Automotive South Africa has joined the Forever Wild campaign, which is aimed at protecting rhino populations and is managed by the Wilderness Foundation in South Africa.

This announcement was made at the launch of a rhino protection awareness campaign under the auspices of the Wilderness Foundation at Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The primary objectives of the Forever Wild campaign include maintaining populations of free ranging rhino, protecting rhino populations in natural ecosystems and, in particular, addressing the illegal trade in rhino horn as well as wildlife products.

Under the banner of a specially designed Forever Wild Rhino Protection Initiative logo, HELLA support includes the fitment of auxiliary lights to six anti-poaching Volkswagen South Africa sponsored Amarok vehicles used throughout the country.

According to HELLA managing director, Lars Beaujean, the campaign fits into the multi-national’s corporate social responsibility programme. “HELLA recognises the need to address and assist in anti-poaching initiatives at ground level in South Africa.”

“In particular, we have committed to the fitment of auxiliary work- and spot-lights to each of the VWSA sponsored vehicles. The LED and Xenon products fitted represent cutting edge technology with proven reliability under extreme environmental and tough working conditions.”

“We have opted to fit two Luminator LED spot lights for distance vision at night as it provides a light beam in excess of 600 meters, four roof-mounted Luminator X Xenon with distance of just over 450 meters but offering a slightly wider light footprint and a Power Beam 2000 LED work-light for use in the area immediately surrounding the vehicle.”

“Rangers require good all-round night vision and we are pleased that HELLA can make a contribution in the fight against illegal rhino horn trading,” Beaujean added.
