Pioneer Foods raises R1-million for abused, vulnerable and orphaned children

Published: 18 April 2012

In a national drive to raise R1-million for abused, vulnerable and orphaned children, Pioneer Foods, in a first-ever collaborative CSI effort from all its divisions, will be donating a percentage of its revenue to charity organisations of The Table of Peace and Unity.

Marrying leading consumer brands and popular retail destination, The Table of Peace and Unity approached Pioneer Foods and Checkers to combine their collective strengths in aid of raising much needed funds for charity. This initiative culminates on Mother’s Day, 13 May, with the annual Table of Peace and Unity event held on Table Mountain

The Pioneer Foods promotion will hit Checkers stores, country wide on Monday, 23 April. For three weeks consumers will be able to buy more than just a Pioneer Foods product – consumers will be contributing towards the wellbeing of an increasingly vulnerable part of our population – our children.

Participating brands such as Spekko rice, Sasko bread, Sasko flour, Puccini pasta, Weet-bix, Moirs biscuits, Liqui Fruit, Ceres, Mirinda, 7-Up, Mountain Dew, Lipton ice tea as well as Nulaid eggs will be clearly flagged in-store for consumer convenience.

Proceeds will go to beneficiaries, Bobbi Bear and COPESSA in Johannesburg and the Nceduluntu Sanctuary Trust, The Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation and the ‘City Angel’, Christine Booysen, who works with homeless children in Lavender Hill in Cape Town.

Now in its 11th year, the Table of Peace and Unity gather 700 people annually, including dignitaries, religious leaders, various celebrities, and members of the public. This year, Pioneer Foods and Checkers join the plea to help raise much needed funds for South Africa’s next generation.
