Published: 6 July 2011

The 702 Birthday Wish campaign for 2011 touched the lives of 35 listeners and their families. All the recipients, as well as their nominators and the sponsors who made the wishes come true, were invited to a birthday breakfast at 702.

“The Birthday Wish is an opportunity for us to touch people’s lives directly, and in this sprit, we wanted to connect the generous sponsors with those whose lives they changed,” explained Pheladi Gwangwa, Talk Radio 702 station manager. John Robbie’s show was broadcast from the breakfast, and during the show, two final wishes were announced.

The first was a new house for Margaret Chauke who has been looking after her grandchildren without a permanent roof over their heads. Lonmin stepped in to build Margaret her own home.

The second went to JAM, Joint Aid Management, an organisation that provides nourishment and support to over 500 000 children. They were surprised with R125 000 thanks to Coca-Cola who are celebrating their 125th birthday this year.
